Research Abstract:
Together with Prof. A. Eldor, Ichilov Hospital, we are trying to 
understand the different changes in the coagulation system in 
thalassemia. Our most recent work showed a direct correlation between 
P-Selectin binding in thalassemic platelets as an indicator of 
platelet activation and annexin-5 binding to thalassemic RBC which is 
an indicator of phosphatydilserine exposure to the outer surface of 
the RBC membrane. We are also measuring different factors which are 
causing thrombophilia in thalassemia patients. We believe that 
correction of these anomalies will prevent the hypercoagulable state 
which may lead to thromboembolism.
