| | Welcome to China: Hebrew University students to learn Chinese in summer course at Jilin University | |
 | | ''Welcome to China!'' | |
Students from the Hebrew University's East Asian Department traveled to China this week to participate in an intensive Chinese language summer course. Offered at one of China's leading universities, Jilin University, the course is designed to help students quickly improve their Chinese speaking, listening and reading skills. The students will also participate in enrichment activities that expose them to China's diverse culture.
The collaboration between the Hebrew University and Jilin University began last year and continues this year in light of its success. Of approximately forty students participating, eleven received scholarships from the Polonsky Foundation, which supports charities worldwide with a focus on education and the arts. This year students from other universities in Israel were also invited to participate..
''This summer course is another important building block in our efforts to provide our students a high level of Chinese language proficiency,'' said Dr. Lihi Yariv-Laor, Chair of the Department of Asian Studies. ''This is a substantial qualitative leap that can already be seen in the success rates of our graduates in China and elsewhere.''
