Former Hebrew U. President Prof. Magidor awarded Humboldt Prize

Former president of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Prof. Menachem Magidor has been awarded a Humboldt Research Award, it was announced recently by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

Prof. Menachem Magidor of the Einstein Institute of Mathematics was nominated for the award by the German scientist Prof. Ralf Schindler of the University of Muenster and Prof. Peter Koepke of the University of Bonn, in recognition of lifetime achievements in research and teaching. As part of the Humboldt Research Award, grantees are invited to undertake research projects of their own choice in cooperation with specialist colleagues in Germany.

Prof. Magidor is a professor of mathematics at the Einstein Institute of Mathematics. His research includes mathematical logic, logic applied to computer science, artificial intelligence, and semantics of distributed computing. He served as President of the Hebrew University from 1997 to 2009.

Every year, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation enables more than 2,000 researchers from all over the world to spend time researching in Germany. The Foundation maintains a network of more than 24,000 Humboldtians from all disciplines in over 130 countries worldwide - including 44 Nobel Prize winners.

The award is granted in recognition of a researcher's entire achievements to date to academics whose fundamental discoveries, new theories, or insights have had a significant impact on their own discipline and who are expected to continue producing cutting-edge achievements in the future.
